Review of Life With Bipolar Type Two: a guide to stability
from Mental Health Professional
“Many books on mental health related subject areas cover theory or talk about the subject from a personal point of view, this book is rare as it covers both aspects, and does this skillfully and convincingly, so that the author’s experience aids the understanding of theory, and research gives weight to the author’s observations.
The book is comprehensive and extremely well referenced, covering material on diagnosis, causes, symptoms, treatment, management and lifestyle. It does so in a refreshing way that illuminates subject matter with the author’s personal observations throughout. The style is engaging, thought-provoking and very readable. Insights range from managing depression and hypomania, addressing risk, accessing the right help, medication, therapy, and tips to manage related problems such as sleep and stress.
I would recommend this book to a variety of people: professionals who want to deepen their understanding of bipolar type two; people who have this diagnosis who want to increase their knowledge of the subject area as well as gaining practical ideas to feel a greater sense of control and hope; and those close to someone with this diagnosis who wish to understand and support that person more. Anyone who reads this book will come away with a clearer idea of how bipolar disorder impacts on a person’s life, and also what the person – and other people in their life – can do to impact on the bipolar disorder. Eleanor speaks with authority and experience on the subject matter, and what results is a book that is informative about both bipolar disorder itself and the impact it has on a human being. It is a welcome addition to books on Bipolar type two.”

There aren’t many books specifically about bipolar II. Thankfully this one exists. It’s an excellent comprehensive resource. It has a personal tone that really makes it feel like someone out there understands you, cares and is trying their best to help you.
The author effectively applies academic research skills and clear, concise writing style to an accessible overview of bipolar type two. A much appreciated contribution to a publishing gap.
I wish I’d read this 20 years ago. It’s nice to read you’re not the only one. I read the whole thing in about 3-4 hours as it is very readable and divided up into lots of short subtitled sections. It’s well-written with pros and cons of various strategies to manage your symptoms and attention to how different people experience different feelings and symptoms. Her book also recommends a couple of other books and so I’m off to buy those now.
Most people have a very vague idea of what bi polar actually is and this book is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to broaden their knowledge and get a better understanding of this highly complex, misunderstood disorder. If you suffer from bi polar, have a relative/friend/colleague who does or if you are interested in mental health then this is a must have book for your library. In many ways mental health is still a taboo for many people, it’s a subject which doesn’t get discussed at the dinner parties, book clubs, family gatherings, schools etc and this needs to change. Books like that one is a step in the right direction, this change is long overdue. People need to learn that mental health is nothing to be ashamed of, we need to learn how to ask for help and how to help those who seek it. For way too long medical diagnosis like bi polar or schizophrenia have been used as an insult or when making fun of people.
I can only say that this book needs to be in every single library.
I really appreciate the effort that went into this book. I found it to be very informative and comprehensive. It does not use the american health care system (for the better lol) but there was still plenty to be learned about dealing with doctors and medications. the author saw a gap in what was available and filled it! thank you Miss Eleanor Mary Worsley!
